Xlendi

XlendiXlendiOnce a sleepy, picturesque fishing village Xlendi is inundated with day trippers and holiday makers in the summer months. Xlendi is one of the most popular seaside resorts in Gozo but unfortunately its natural beauty has been almost entirely spoilt by unregulated apartment blocks and hotels quickly thrown up to cater for the tourist trade. Nevertheless, despite the somewhat tacky establishments, Xlendi is still a picturesque spot where you'll be able to enjoy a bit of al fresco dining at an affordable price.

A natural harbour, Xlendi provides safe anchorage for numerous pleasure boats and traditional luzzus or Maltese fishing boats. There is also a small, sandy beach providing safe swimming for young children and experienced swimmers. To the east and west, Xlendi Bay is sided by rocks and as there is also a little cove on the eastern side, Xlendi is also a good spot for snokelling. Canoes and paddleboats are available for hire in the bay.

Xlendi Bay is a natural horseshoe shaped bay sided to the east by cliffs. Steps on the eastern side of the bay lead up to the cliffs and walkers can hike from here to Wardija Point and Dwejra. Alternatively, a winding footpath at the southern end of Xlendi Bay will take you to the 17th century watch tower at Ras il-Bajda. Walkers can continue east to Sanap Cliffs and onward to Ta' Cenc.

  Xlendi Tips
  • Xlendi is a good spot for tourists with young children and al fresco dining.

  • Xlendi is best enjoyed in small doses - stop off here for lunch or a bite to eat and then continue on your tour!

  • Avoid Xlendi as you would the plague on a Saturday or Sunday in summer unless you enjoy waiting for service and are keen on having a very long and very relaxed lunch!
