If your family likes Halloween with a bit of spectacle, head south to Żabbar on Saturday 31 October 2026. The Żabbar Halloween Lantern Festival lights up the narrow old alleys of the Biccieni area from 6pm, with a Halloween parade featuring a float and dancers plus more attractions along the way. It is organised by MMG Promotions together with the Żabbar Local Council, and it has been running in previous years too.
What to expect
The highlight is the parade: a decorated float, dancers in costume and plenty of music moving through the village streets. Around it, the alleys are dressed with lanterns, pumpkins and spooky decorations, which makes the old core of Żabbar a great backdrop for photos after dark. The organisers promise “many more attractions”, but the full programme has not been published yet, so expect the details to be confirmed on the night.
- When: Saturday 31 October 2026, from 6pm
- Where: Biccieni alleys, Żabbar
- Entry: free
- Organisers: MMG Promotions and Żabbar Local Council
Tips for visitors
Costumes are part of the fun, for kids and adults alike. The alleys are narrow, so with a pushchair it is easier to arrive early, before the parade crowd builds up. Bring a light jacket, as the evenings start to cool down at the end of October, and check the weather on our Malta This Week page in case of rain. Looking for more spooky plans? Our guide to Halloween in Malta lists other parties and family events, and Gozo has the free Haunting of Blankas in Xewkija on the same night.
How to get there
Żabbar is in the south-east of Malta, close to the Three Cities and Marsaskala. Expect road closures and busy streets around the village core on the evening, so park on the outer roads and walk in, or come by bus, as several routes from Valletta serve Żabbar. Use the Tallinja app to check the last bus home. For other things to do over the Halloween weekend, see our full list of upcoming events in Malta and Gozo.
