The Haunting of Blankas 2026: Free Halloween Night at Ġnien Blankas, Xewkija, Gozo, 31 October

Halloween in Gozo is mostly about village squares and family fun, but Xewkija is going a step further this year. On Saturday 31 October 2026, the Xewkija Local Council turns Ġnien Blankas, the garden on Triq tal-Loġġa, into The Haunting of Blankas, a walk-through Halloween attraction set among the garden’s trees and paths. It runs from 7pm to 11pm and entry is free.

What to expect

The organisers promise more than a few plastic pumpkins. The plan is a mix of storytelling and live theatre by professional actors, animatronics, moody lighting and sound, themed installations you can interact with, and dedicated scare zones. The natural setting of the garden does a lot of the work after dark, so expect a proper spooky atmosphere rather than a party.

  • When: Saturday 31 October 2026, 7pm to 11pm
  • Where: Ġnien Blankas, Triq tal-Loġġa, Xewkija, Gozo
  • Entry: free
  • Organiser: Xewkija Local Council

No age rating has been published. The event is aimed at families, young people and visitors, but the scare zones may be too much for small children, so parents of little ones may want to ask the council first or go earlier in the evening.

Tips for visitors

Free Halloween events tend to draw crowds, so expect queues at peak time, roughly 8pm to 9:30pm. Arriving close to 7pm usually means a calmer visit. Wear closed shoes, since garden paths can be uneven and dark, and bring a light jacket. Costumes are not required but fit right in. For other ideas on the same weekend, see our guide to Halloween in Malta and the family night at Halloween in Nadur on Friday 30 October. Opera lovers can pair the trip with Madama Butterfly at Teatru Astra, which plays the same evening in Victoria.

How to get there

Xewkija sits between Mġarr Harbour and Victoria, so it is only a short drive from the Gozo Channel ferry. Parking near the garden will be limited on the night, so use the side streets of the village and walk the last part. Buses link Xewkija with Victoria and Mġarr, but late services are fewer, so check the last bus home. More plans for the week are on our events page.
