From 14 November 2026 to 10 January 2027, Il-Ħaġar Gozo Museum in Victoria hosts The Cave of Calypso, an exhibition built around the work of Victor Pasmore. Entry is listed as free, which makes it an easy cultural stop on any winter trip to Gozo.
Who was Victor Pasmore?
Victor Pasmore was one of Britain’s leading abstract artists of the twentieth century. In 1966 he moved to Malta, where he lived and worked until his death in 1998, and the light and landscape of the islands fed into much of his later work. The Cave of Calypso is the title of a well-known series of his prints, and the name links neatly to Gozo itself: local tradition says the island is Ogygia, home of the nymph Calypso in Homer’s Odyssey, and the cave above Ramla Bay carries her name.
What to expect
Il-Ħaġar is a modern museum in the heart of Victoria, close to St George’s Basilica, with galleries over several floors. The exact pieces on show had not been listed in detail when we wrote this, so expect a focused exhibition rather than a full retrospective. It pairs well with the museum’s permanent displays on Gozo’s history and church art.
