Il-Mixja tal-President is one of those Maltese traditions that brings people from all over the island onto the same road on the same morning. Every year families, friends, school groups and workplace teams walk together into Valletta to raise money for The Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation, the national charity that supports patients, families and organisations in need. The 2026 edition takes place on Sunday 22 November 2026, with the walk starting at 9:15am.
How the walk works
There are two starting points, so you can pick the one closest to you:
- San Anton Palace, Attard: the President’s official residence, right next to the lovely San Anton Gardens.
- Raħal Ġdid (Paola): a good option if you live in the south or the Harbour area.
The two groups meet at Blata l-Bajda and then continue together, walking through Floriana and into the capital to finish at the Grand Master’s Palace in Valletta. It is a relaxed walk rather than a race, so all ages and fitness levels join in.
Taking part
Participation is a €10 donation, and every walker receives a commemorative T-shirt. Registration is handled through the foundation’s official ticketing page. T-shirts can be collected from several points, including the Kottonera Sports Complex, Ħal Kirkop Sports Complex, the National Pool Complex in Qroqq, the Community Chest Fund offices in Valletta and in Rabat, Gozo, San Anton Palace and Eurosport in Birkirkara. Exact collection days and hours were not confirmed when we wrote this, so check before you go.
Tips for visitors
- Arrive early at your start point, as parking near San Anton fills up fast. Buses are an easier choice; our Malta bus guide explains routes and fares.
- Wear comfortable shoes and bring water. November mornings are usually mild, but a light jacket helps.
- Expect some road closures along the route that morning, so plan any car journeys around it.
- After the finish, stay on and enjoy the capital. Our Valletta guide has ideas for lunch and sightseeing, and the city’s Christmas lights switch on a few days later with Christmas in Valletta.
Whether you walk for a cause close to your heart or just for a sociable Sunday morning, it is a lovely way to be part of local life in Malta.
