Malta International Wine Festival 2026: Everything You Need to Know

Malta International Wine Festival 2026: Everything You Need to Know

If you’re in Malta this June and you have even a passing interest in wine – or honestly, just a love of warm evenings, live music, and a beautiful garden setting – the Malta International Wine Festival should be at the top of your list.

Running from Wednesday 17th to Sunday 21st June 2026, the festival takes over the stunning Argotti Gardens in Floriana every evening from 18:00 to midnight. Five evenings. Over 300 wines. One very good excuse to dress up and linger outside long after sunset.

What Is the Malta International Wine Festival?

The Malta International Wine Festival holds the distinction of being Malta’s first international wine festival, and it’s grown into one of the biggest wine events on the Maltese islands. The whole idea is to make wine accessible and genuinely enjoyable – not just for enthusiasts who already know their Barolo from their Beaujolais, but for anyone curious about what’s out there.

The focus is on wines from Malta and from all over the world, with a wide range of grape varieties on show from producers you’d never come across in a normal week. Think of it less as a stuffy tasting event and more as an evening out that happens to be very educational if you want it to be.

The setting alone is worth it. The Argotti Botanical Gardens in Floriana are genuinely lovely – green, shaded in parts, with that unmistakably Maltese combination of history and warmth in the air.

Tickets and Entry

General admission costs €5.50 at the door, and it includes your wine glass plus access to free water stations throughout the evening. That’s a decent deal for five nights of world-class wine exploration.

If you want to go all out, VIP tickets are €50 and get you quite a bit more: a branded wine glass, access to a comfortable dedicated area with limited capacity (so it doesn’t feel crowded), free-flowing wine and water, and an assortment of nibbles served between 20:00 and midnight.

There’s also a Club Nights area open to the general public at the far end of the garden – so if you want to keep the evening going after the wine tasting winds down, that option is there.

What’s On

The Wine Itself

This is obviously the main event. With 300+ wines representing vineyards and importers from across the globe, you could spend all five evenings working your way through different regions and still not cover everything. There are dedicated areas for premium wines if you’re after something rare or exceptional – think limited vintages in a slightly more refined corner of the garden.

Masterclasses

One of the highlights for anyone who genuinely wants to learn: expert-led masterclasses running through the festival. These cover tasting techniques, food and wine pairings, and the stories behind what makes certain wines exceptional. Worth booking early if this is your thing.

Wine Importers Area

This is where you get to meet the people behind the bottles. Malta has a surprisingly good network of wine importers, and the festival brings many of them together under one roof (or rather, one beautiful garden), so you can ask questions and hear directly about what you’re tasting.

Entertainment and Live Music

The atmosphere at the Argotti Gardens is always good, and the festival adds live music and performances throughout the evenings. It’s designed to be relaxed – the kind of event where you find a spot, settle in with a glass of something interesting, and let the evening happen around you.

VIP Area

For those who prefer a bit more comfort and exclusivity, the VIP section offers a quieter space, premium pours, and gourmet nibbles. With limited entry, it doesn’t get overcrowded – which, during a busy summer festival, is worth something in itself.

Club Nights

The garden doesn’t shut down when the tasting does. DJs keep things going at the Club Nights area, which is open to all general admission visitors. Fine wines and a dancefloor – a combination that works better than it sounds.

Is It Worth Going?

Genuinely, yes. Even if wine isn’t your primary hobby, the Malta International Wine Festival is the kind of event that turns into a highlight of the summer. The combination of the garden setting, the range of wines, the live entertainment, and the long warm June evenings makes for something that feels special rather than just another ticketed event.

Go on a weeknight if you can – the weekend evenings fill up, and there’s something especially nice about a quieter Tuesday or Wednesday with a glass of something from Georgia or Sardinia in hand, without the crowd.
