If there is one Christmas market Maltese families look forward to every year, it is Natalis Notabilis. For ten days in December, the historic heart of Rabat, right beside the walls of Mdina, fills with Christmas stalls, food, crafts, nativity cribs and live entertainment.
Natalis Notabilis 2026: Key Details
- Dates: Friday 4th to Sunday 13th December 2026
- Location: Historic centre of Rabat, Malta
- Opening times: To be announced
- Park & Ride: 2026 arrangements to be announced
What to Expect
The narrow old streets of Rabat are a big part of the magic. Wander between stalls selling handmade gifts, local crafts and festive treats, stop for warm food and mulled drinks, and admire the traditional Maltese cribs on display. There is entertainment throughout the festival, and the whole town takes on a cosy, village-Christmas feel that is quite different from a city market.
Combine It With Mdina
Mdina, the “Silent City”, is just a few minutes’ walk away. Visit in the late afternoon, explore Mdina’s quiet streets and bastion views, then head into Rabat as the Christmas lights come on.
Tips Before You Go
- It is one of Malta’s most popular Christmas events, so expect crowds, especially on weekends.
- Parking in Rabat is very limited. Use public transport or the Park & Ride service if it runs again.
- Bring cash for smaller stalls and wear comfortable shoes for the old, uneven streets.
Times and arrangements are announced closer to the event. Check the official Natalis Notabilis page before visiting.
