If you grew up with the big film themes of the last fifty years, this is a night for you. On Saturday 21 November 2026, the La Stella Band, presented by the La Stella Philharmonic Society, takes the stage at Teatru Astra in Victoria with A Celebration of John Williams, a concert of the composer’s best-known film music arranged for symphonic wind band.
What to expect
John Williams wrote some of the most recognisable music in cinema, from space adventures and dinosaur parks to boy wizards and treasure-hunting archaeologists. The theatre has not published the full list of pieces, but the evening promises his most famous themes, and hearing them played by a full wind band gives them a bright, powerful sound that suits a big theatre like the Astra.
Gozo has a strong band tradition. The La Stella and Leone societies are at the heart of Victoria’s cultural life, and their musicians are mostly local volunteers who rehearse all year. A concert like this is a good chance to see that side of island life outside the summer festa season.

How to get there
Teatru Astra is on Republic Street, the main road into Victoria, so it is easy to find. From Malta, take the Gozo Channel ferry from Ċirkewwa to Mġarr, then a bus, taxi or car to Victoria, about 15 minutes away. Parking on Republic Street fills up on Saturday nights, so allow time to find a space in the side streets.
