Every year, Gozo’s Christmas season starts with one big festive evening, and in 2026 it falls on Saturday 28 November, from 19:30 to 21:30, at Teatru Astra in Victoria. Christmas It’s Time is the official opening of the Christmas in Gozo programme, which then runs with markets, lights and village events until early January. Entry is free, which makes it one of the easiest ways to start the holidays on the island.
What to expect
The evening mixes music, song and festive entertainment for all ages, with a strong local, family feel. Past editions have brought together Gozitan singers, bands and choirs on the Astra’s large stage, and the mood is cheerful rather than formal. The full 2026 line-up had not been published when we checked, so treat the programme as a surprise until the organisers announce it.

- Entry is free, but seats are booked through Teatru Astra. You can also call 2155 0985 or email info@teatruastra.org.mt.
- Free shows in Gozo fill up quickly, so reserve as soon as booking opens.
- Arrive early on Republic Street; Saturday evening parking in Victoria gets tight.
- Make a weekend of it: the next day brings the Christmas fair in San Lawrenz and the first evening of the Villa Rundle illuminated gardens, both a short drive or walk away.
Getting there
Teatru Astra is on Triq ir-Repubblika, the main street of Victoria, close to Villa Rundle Gardens and the bus terminus. From Malta, take the Gozo Channel ferry from Ċirkewwa to Mġarr, then bus 301 or a short taxi ride into Victoria.
