October might be the best-kept secret on Malta’s calendar. The summer crowds have gone home, the sea is still warm enough for a swim, and the island fills up with festivals, concerts, candlelit streets and cultural nights. Whether you live here or you’re flying in for a few days, here’s everything worth doing in Malta in October 2026, week by week.
What’s the Weather Like in Malta in October?
October is still properly warm. Expect sunny days in the mid-20s °C, mild evenings and sea temperatures that stay comfortable for swimming, especially in the first half of the month. The first autumn rains usually arrive at some point, often as short, heavy showers rather than grey days, so pack a light jacket and keep your beach bag ready.

- Go hiking: cooler temperatures make it perfect for coastal walks like the Dingli Cliffs or the trails around Gozo.
- Visit the ancient temples: with smaller crowds, October is ideal for exploring Malta’s ancient temples.
- Eat like a local: autumn brings hearty Maltese dishes back to the menu. Our guide to traditional Maltese food tells you what to order.
- Catch a village festa: a few parishes still celebrate their patron saints in October, with band marches and fireworks.
Tips for Visiting Malta in October
- The first two weeks are the busiest for events. Book accommodation early if you’re coming for Birgufest or Anjunadeep.
- Hotel prices drop compared to summer, but popular event weekends can still sell out.
- Pack summer clothes plus a light layer for evenings, and a small umbrella just in case.
- Public transport gets very busy on big event nights. Ferries across the Grand Harbour are a great way to reach Birgu and the Three Cities.
