Żabbar goes all in on Halloween this year. Besides the lantern parade on Saturday night, the village also hosts Terrur, the Żabbar Halloween Festival, over three evenings from Friday 30 October to Sunday 1 November 2026. It takes place at Misraħ is-Sliem and mixes a family festival in the square with real scares underground, inside old World War II shelters.
What to expect
The festival has something for different ages. In the square you will find trick or treating, pumpkin carving contests, games, food and drinks and live music. The bigger draw is below ground, where the wartime shelters are turned into haunted paths. The ticket page lists four experiences:
- Terrorito: the kids’ shelter. Children under 10 must stay with an adult, and a free adult ticket comes with each purchase.
- Terrur: the scarier shelter for ages 14 and over. ID may be checked at the entrance.
- The Maze
- Trick or Treat
- When: Friday 30 October, Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November 2026, doors from 6pm
- Where: Misraħ is-Sliem, Żabbar
- Tickets: not on sale yet at the time of writing; prices will be announced on the official Terrur website (terrur.mt)
Shelter visits work with booked time slots, so once tickets open it is worth booking early, especially for Saturday, which is Halloween night itself. The organisers say closing time can vary, so check the hours on the day.
Tips for visitors
The shelters are narrow, dark and can feel damp, so wear comfortable closed shoes and leave big bags at home. If you have younger children, start with Terrorito and see how they feel before trying anything else. On Saturday you can combine Terrur with the Żabbar Halloween Lantern Festival parade in the Biccieni alleys, and our Halloween in Malta guide has more ideas for the long weekend.
How to get there
Żabbar is in the south-east of Malta, a short drive from the Three Cities and Marsaskala. Parking near the square fills fast on festival evenings, so leave the car on the outer streets or take the bus from Valletta, and check the last bus home in the Tallinja app. For the weather and more plans that weekend, see Malta This Week and our events page.
